Hey, So What IS Food Science?

Wikipedia defines Food Science as “the science of nature devoted to the study of food”. Basically: the whats, the hows, and the whys of food.


We usually spend so much time, effort and money on food, not wondering how a piece of raw meat can magically turn into a decadent and juicy steak, not questioning how a single metal whisk can change fatty cream into luscious butter. We cook, but rarely do we wonder how we achieve our meals. We eat food without realizing that food, in itself, is a world filled with wonders.


Food is not just an “everyday-must" nor mere sustenance. To us, food is an Art— edible Art. Our goal is to learn and to, hopefully, master that Art. Only through a thorough comprehension of food and the science behind culinary phenomena can we, simply, make good food. In studying Food Science, we will learn the basic of disciplines of food: understanding of the chemistry of food components and their reactions, processing and preservation methods,...
